News for Kawa Kon 2011:
Kawa Kon announces dates and theme for 2011
St. Louis' annual themed anime convention has announced dates, location, and, most importantly, its theme for 2011!
Kawa Kon 2011 will take place March 11-13 at the Crowne Plaza Clayton in the St. Louis suburb of Clayton. This is the convention's third year at the Crowne Plaza, a hotel that provides beautiful backdrops for cosplay pictures.
Using an interactive game on its facebook page, Kawa Kon allowed its facebook fans to guess the theme for 2011. The winner, who guessed it with only one letter revealed, will receive a free host party ticket. The Kawa Kon staff plans to post other interactive material throughout the year on facebook.
The theme for 2011 is "Taking it to the Streets", an exploration of Japanese youth culture past and present. While last year's "Matsuri!" theme included taiko drummers and bunraku puppets, this year's theme will bring hip-hop, street fashion, and a karaoke contest.
Kawa Kon presents an immersive weekend for attendees, combining fun and education, culture and subculture, for a unique convention experience. Cosplay is an important part of that experience for many attendees, which is why Kawa Kon offers a $5 discount for cosplayers.
