Cy has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy awards for his work on Ironside. In 1999, he was nominated for a Humanitas Prize for Rescuers: Stories of Courage: Two Couples for the segment "Aart and Johtje Vos". His segment "The Marie Taquet Story" was also nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award.
Cy Chermak married Francine Carroll (formerly Francine Epstein) on July 7, 1955. They had three daughters including Bonnie J. Chermak.
