Comic Convention
Uticon was started back in 1990 by Bob Elinskas as a way to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association (where he served as a youth advisor) and a way to bring the fun of a comic book show to the Utica area.
Our first guests were Howard Simpson, Ken Gale, Mercy VanV lack, and local small press artists. Over the following ten years, the show grew to become one of the more well-known and fun, family-focused shows in the Mohawk Valley - always spotlighting great indy artists and writers, as well as showcasing many professional comic book creators from Upstate NY who donated their time & talents.
The show ran for ten years and stayed primarily at MVCC - Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY- (though, one show had to be moved at the last second to Proctor High School because of a measles outbreak at the college) and one year at Utica College. The show took a break while Bob's work duties no longer allowed him to run the show without help.
However, in 2014, the show returned and continues on!
The 12th annual Uticon will be at MVCC, still run by Bob, but with some terrific volunteers who want to see comic books enjoyed throughout the Mohawk Valley and who want to raise funds for the American Cancer Society (through Relay For Life - their signature event). We're thrilled to have the show back and we hope you'll support it (and the fight against cancer) by stopping in and checking it out! As always, all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and the show is 100% volunteer run!
