WhoFest started because Tim Miller wanted to have a party to watch the 50th anniversary Doctor Who Special. It quickly became clear that his living room was not going to be large enough so the event was moved to a larger facility. Started by many of the same people that run FenCon WhoFest was brought under the banner of The Dallas Future Society, a 501(c)(3) non profit corporation.
